I have always been interested in the natural world around me. The delicacy of hands, strength of veins, unique features of eyes. Everything in the body seems to correlate to nature, which is constantly around us. I am not only interested in the aesthetics of the body, but also its inner workings and systems. The body is full of questions that evoke constant curiosity. When people see my art I hope curiosity forms in their minds.
I use art as a way to express myself. I am drawn towards the aspects of art that are very stylized and have a large design presence. I combine these clean designs and simple features to create my art. My inspiration comes from the organic things around me in the body. I am also heavily influenced by a contour style of drawing. When people see my art I want them to be able to make their own assumptions based on how they feel. I love the look of wood and the natural and calming aspect it gives off.
Wood burning holds the most aesthetic meaning to me, especially when in combination with other media like acrylic paint. The combination of naturalistic illustration with simplified and stylized design elements is fascinating to me. Wood burning creates an atmosphere where ever you do it. The smoke fills the hair, the smell engulfs the room. I often don’t have an extremely thought out and planned design, but I love the spontaneity of creating something right when a design enters my mind. I am currently working on portraying stories through a series of works.
